mint doesn't like external packages aka other kernels and/or up to date mesa. Otherwise i don't know that much anymore since i never really liked how inflexible mint is and always stopped using it rather fast.

RN I'm using Fedora but having to add additional repos to get basic video playback (decode/encode) is beyond retarded and so is also the fact that installing any updates at all with the software store (which is the preferred graphical installer) needs the PC to restart all like windows to install them \"safely\" while you can just install them instantly like any other repo by using the terminal.
